A few days ago I had a conversation with Erin Gums, the founder of Tap Into Your Wellspring coaching.

We covered a laundry list of topics, but one thing she mentioned really stood out to me.

Her first client came almost accidentally.

He was a part of her alumni network and saw the work she was doing, so he reached out and asked how he could work with her.

It was that easy.

Don’t get me wrong. Client acquisition generally is the most frustrating and challenging aspect or any coaching of consulting business.

But, there is a way to make client acquisition almost laughably easy at times.

It all comes down to how well you define your ideal client, your market position, and your messaging. If done properly, some people will immediately designate you as THE solution to their problems despite barely even knowing you.

Let me explain…

Perhaps you’ve heard the term “your network is your net worth” before.

Let’s build on this concept, but with more specificity.

I introduce to you the power of the TRIBE.

In selling high-ticket coaching or consulting offers, people’s willingness to buy from you is largely driven by what’s called the “know, like, and trust factor”.

The more people know you, like you, and trust you, the easier it is to transition them into paying clients.

And when people feel like you are part of their tribe, they almost immediately know, like, and trust you.

So rather than spending countless resources on trying to convince people to know, like, and trust you, just connect with people who are already in your tribe.

Being a member of the tribe means that you’re safe. The human brain draws logical shortcuts by applying characteristics of everyone in the tribe directly to you.

Thus, you are not a stranger, and the risk of working with you is far lower.

A tribe can be anything that creates an “us vs them” dynamic.

Think colleges attended, places you’ve lived or worked, sports teams you cheer for, traumatic experiences you’ve encountered, memberships, hobbies, etc.

There’s really no limit to the variety of tribes you can define.

When you’re in the early stages of monetizing your business, put extra effort into defining your tribe, and then offer your services directly to others who are part of your tribe.

Your first client will almost always come from this approach.
