I’ve spoken to over 200 aspiring solo-entrepreneurs in the past 6 months.

Some successful. Many who’ve tried and failed. Most who’ve never even started.

What I can say is this…

The #1 thing preventing most people from seeing success in their coaching, consulting, or advisory business is their own self-limiting beliefs around what it even means to run a business in the first place.

They think that business must entail:

  • growing an online following

  • building a product/service

  • launching a newsletter

  • creating a website

  • designing a logo

I don’t know about you, but this sounds like a LOT of work to be doing before a single dollar is ever made.

But I can tell you that none of these things are necessary.

There are only a small few things that need to be done very well for a business to thrive

When you disregard the unnecessary, and focus exclusively on executing the small handful of ultra-high-leverage actions required to drive your business forward, you are almost guaranteed to see results much faster than you imagined was possible.

Take one of my recent clients for example: a graduate of a prestigious MBA program and currently employed at one of the Big 4 professional services firms.

When we first connected, she had already spun her wheels for two years with very little success generating revenue for her coaching business.

She spent years building a large LinkedIn following, establishing a newsletter and email list, and designing multiple coaching offers that covered her broad range of interests.

Yet, she could not land any paying clients.

All of that work produced nothing.

This is common for new solopreneurs because they believe they must move mountains before they are in position to sell their services. They believe they must build an intricate business with complex funnels, landing pages, and websites.

This belief almost always hurts more than it helps.

Yet I cannot begin to tell you the number of aspiring solopreneurs who insist that they need these things before they can attract paying customers.

Fortunately this recent client who reached out to me for help was willing to take a different approach.

The fix almost always lies in simplifying, minimizing, and shifting focus. That’s where I come into play.

Once this client began working with me, things changed.

We discarded everything she was doing before, then shifted the focus only to the small few things that matter when it comes to gaining traction and actually making money.

  • Creating an ironclad offer that’s too good to refuse

  • Crafting a magnetic personal brand that attracts inbound leads

  • Proactively reaching out to potential clients who signal interest

  • Designing a simple client funnel that quickly builds massive trust

  • Curating an engagement sequence that makes people WANT to pay you

Now, only 2 weeks after re-launching her coaching business, she’s lined up 10 calls from warm inbound leads, a few of which will likely lead to her first $5k-$10k of independent income in the coming weeks, and another potential tens or even hundreds of thousands of independent income over the next year.

After this, she will be set for life because, like riding a bicycle, once you learn how to turn any idea into into a productized service and secure paying clients you’ll never forget it.

In this client’s case, she’ll never be fully reliant on a 9-5 paycheck again.

So if you’re either thinking of starting a solo-business, or are in the early stages of getting your business off the ground, remember to let go of any limiting beliefs you have around what is and is not essential to the the core function of the business.

This will make a massive difference.
