A few days ago I was speaking with my newest client and she mentioned something that most people aren’t talking about.

She left her job a few years back, and has been dabbling with entrepreneurship ever since.

She hasn’t seen much success prior to connecting with me, but she did mentioned that she has absolutely zero regrets for taking the risk and putting her financial security on the line.

This is when it got deep…

Because she went on to mention that she’s building “first mover advantage” in the online solopreneurship space.

This is the common sentiment shared among most of my clients.

They see that the old system is dying and being replaced by a new economic order — one that rewards independent operators who are not fully reliant on a traditional paycheck.

In the words of Klaus Schwab, former executive chairman of the World Economic Forum:

“We stand on the brink of a technological revolution that will fundamentally alter the way we live, work, and relate to one another.”

And when it comes specifically to a changing work climate, Daniel Pink, author of Free Agent Nation says:

“The old paradigm of American work was the Organization Man. The new paradigm is the Free Agent.”

❝

Free Agent (n): the independent worker who operates on his or her own terms, untethered to a large organization

If you’ve ever lost a job, spent months in a grueling job search, or generally felt totally reliant on the traditional system, then you realize that being fully dependent on a single paycheck can come with catastrophic and life-upending consequences.

I believe this will only get worse as AI, changing market trends, geopolitical risks, and market consolidation continues to render previously “safe” jobs obsolete.

Economic autonomy is the future.

And the quickest path for most corporate rebels to unlock economic autonomy is through leveraging the internet, social media, and digital technology to sell high-demand knowledge that you already possess to a global market.

While most remain complacent in their corporate jobs, a small few are building solo-businesses that follow this exact model.

They’re investing their time, money, and attention into productizing their knowledge, building an online personal brand that attracts potential buyers, and selling their expertise for $5-10k a pop.

This is the case for my clients:

  • A former BCG consultant who’s offering a proprietary career decision-making framework for people who struggle to find fulfillment

  • A consultant who is building a practice that helps shy people find their voice so they can attract paid opportunities

  • A former Google employee who productized the same movement protocol she used to recover from a major health scare

They’re building their vehicles of economic autonomy.

They will never need to work another 9-5 job again.

They’re enjoying first mover advantage before the rest of the market inevitably follows suit in the next 10 years.

I don't know how much longer this window of opportunity will remain open.

But, I genuinely believe 2027 is possibly the last year to gain first mover advantage.

With each passing year, gaining a foothold in the independent income market will become exponentially more challenging.

As of the time of publishing this article, you have about 14 months left to build independent income simply through selling your knowledge.

After that, the market might be too crowded and you’ll be going up against established players who’ve gained market position while you were still exclusively relying on your 9-5 paycheck.
