Let’s face it.

We live in the internet age.

Our decisions, our opinions, our political beliefs, and even our beauty standards are largely driven by the information we consume via the internet.

It is what it is.

I personally hate the internet.

But also see that for the past 20 years, the internet has progressively consumed our daily lives.

So it stands to reason that the future will continue to belong to those who build assets in the online dimension.

Yet most of us are sitting on the sidelines as the revolution unfolds in real time.

Most people are merely consumers of internet content, without producing anything themselves online.

Everyone consumes social media, streaming services, food delivery, and the like.

But very few create content of their own.

This makes 99% of people net consumers in the online world.

This is not ideal, considering that being a net producer in the internet economy has proven time and time again to be one of the most accessible pathways to generating extraordinarily high-margin income with zero financial capital.

Thus, failing to draw the direct connection between online content and income potential is one of the most costly missed opportunities most people will make in their lifetimes.

The time you spend thinking about which bullet point you should include in your resume could be better spent producing content that cements you as a go-to person within a specific area of expertise.

This will open up far more opportunities than a perfectly curated resume, cover letter, or job app referral.

Your online presence is the greatest asset you can build as a “successful” corporate professional.

Chances are that you’ve contemplated some form of content creation.

You’ve maybe considered a podcast, or a YouTube channel, or something else. Perhaps you didn’t start because you can’t fully translate that effort into concrete benefits on your life.

It may seem too uncertain.

So you stick to what you know. Resumes. Cover letters. Slaving away hoping to get promoted. Hopping jobs to command increasingly higher salaries while jeopardizing your health, your happiness, and your soul in the process.

Meanwhile some young kid in his parent’s basement with an idea and an internet connection is bypassing the system entirely and building his dream life because he understand the power of personal online branding.

It is a magnetic force that attracts asymmetric upside opportunities.

It attracts potential employers.

It attracts potential customers or clients.

It is the highest-leverage asset for drawing the right people into your personal ecosystem, which unlocks new paths to lifestyle freedom and flexibility that you never even knew existed.

They don’t teach you this even in the top MBA programs.

So here’s my unsolicited advice.

Don’t let your fancy job title or prestigious degree be the crutch that prevents you from learning how to succeed in the ever-expanding internet economy.

If you are a manager, director, or executive in your corporate role, and you have no presence as online content producer, then you’re leaving so much potential on the table, it should be illegal.

Most notably, you’re missing out on an opportunity to establish alternative income streams that give you leverage in the job market, or could even pave your path out of the corporate rat race entirely.

Your online brand is your new resume.

It is a high-leverage asset.

Start building.
